Join botanists John Shelton-Sarabia and Courtney Alley on a guided hike to discover the numerous wildflowers around Lula Lake.
About the hike: This moderate hike is approximately a 3.5 mile loop on our beautiful Core Preserve property, which will be closed to the public. We will begin by meeting in the meadow and climbing Middle Trail to reach a stunning view of the Bluff Overlook. After that, we'll head to the overlook of the stunning 110-foot Lula Falls. Along the way, we'll stop to encounter the white fringe tree, fire pink, little brown jugs, blue toadflax, and more!
About the Guides: John Shelton-Sarabia and Courtney Alley both graduated with their Masters in Environmental Science at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga with a focus in botany. John’s excellent botanical knowledge comes from his experience conducting a flora to identify all plant species in a defined area of Polk County. Courtney gained skills and knowledge of ecology and identification through her work constructing distribution models for invasive plant species in Tennessee. Currently, John works as a botanist for TVA and Courtney works as a GIS specialist for Hamilton County.
